Grand Rapids Teen Entrepreneur Academy: June 18-22
Monday June 18 to Friday June 22. GVSU Pew Grand Rapids Campus. The Teen Entrepreneur Summer Academy (TESA) is a program focused on growing awareness of small business and entrepreneurship opportunities in West Michigan. Students become aware of the wealth of resources available in West Michigan to assist young entrepreneurs in future business endeavors. The activities and curriculum are tied to the Career Pathways Program and National Entrepreneurship Education Standards.

Momentum Lean Startup Conference
The Michigan Lean Startup Conference will be held May 19 at Grand Valley State University’s Eberhard Center in downtown Grand Rapids. The day-long, single-track conference will feature national speakers and panel discussions. The conference will lead into the kick-off event for Momentum’s 2011 12-week seed accelerator program. Conference attendees and the public will be invited to meet and mingle with this year’s five startup companies, which Chocko expects will be chosen by early April.

Startup Weekend: January 13-15
January 13-15, 2012. Event starts at 6pm on Friday at the Factory in Grand Rapids. Startup Weekend recruits a highly motivated group of developers, business managers, startup enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic artists and more to a 54 hour event that builds communities, companies and projects. It is known for its quick decisions, inventive problem solving, unique facilitation technique and letting the founders show what they can do. The program has already met with success in over 52 cities and 12 countries and growing! The participants that attend a Startup Weekend decide what they want to tackle over the weekend and come out at the end with several developed companies or projects. Attendees are responsible for bringing the same desire and passion to the project and walk out of the room with the task at hand, in a short 54 hours. Sound intense? It is.

Regional Business Plan Competition: April 10
6pm on Thursday, April 10, 2012 at Calvin College. The Regional Business Plan Competition puts the winners of local collegiate Business Plan Competitions in a tournament of champions. Contestants represent respective schools including Aquinas, Calvin, Cornerstone, Davenport, Hope, GRCC and Grand Valley -- member schools of the West Michigan Colleges and Universities Group. In the Regional Business Plan Competition, contestants will submit a written business plan and give a 10-minute pitch about their innovative venture to a panel of veteran judges. Winners can take home a total of $5,500 in seed capital, as well as in-kind prizes designed to help bring the startup company's product or service to market.
